Field trips to Cologne are part of the Bachelor's course program and complement seminars on human geography. We hear presentations from the field trip organizer and guest speakers on topics of urban development theories and mixed use planning. There are a number of locations that we will look at to understand what types of mixed use developments there are, how they interact and function, and what current challenges are. Examples are a rather new development along the Rhine (Rheinauhafen) and a traditional, historically grown neighbourhood in Cologne-Nippes. Topics we will look at include social space and structure, infrastructure, environment and economy.
